Courses in Social Work : (MSW)

To mitigate various psycho-social issues crept for human society due to the industrial revolution took place in England in 17th century, various means of charity, mercy, donation, benefaction etc. proved ineffective. This resulted into developing systems based on scientific knowledge which is called professional social work. There is no thumb rule, scientific method or code of conduct for engaging oneself in social service. Further, the aim to make society self-reliant is not considered in social service whereas in the social work, it not only helps the society through scientific methods but also help beneficiary in such a way that makes the beneficiary gradually self-reliant. Social service has only intention of service whereas in social work, in addition to the service, concept of monetary earning is also being taken care of.

Courses available:

For developing career in the field of social work, the degree courses are available in Bachelor of Social Work (BSW), Bachelor of Social Science (B.Sc.) and at post-graduate level the course of Master of Social Work (MSW) is available. There are opportunities to pursue further studies in M.Phil and Ph.D. also after MSW.

Three-year full-time Bachelor in Social Works course is being conducted after Standard 12 at Anand Arts and College at Anand. This course is also available under distant learning mode through Indira Gandhi National Open University in English and hindi medium. Gujarat Vidyapeeth also offers Bachelor of Social Science course equivalent to BSW at Sadra, Near Chiloda and at Randheja, District Gandhinagar for the aspirants of social work field.

After this Degree Course, employment avenues are available in Government sector on the posts of Social Welfare Officer, Social Security Officer, Program Officer in ICDS, UNDP-run programs in PSM Departments in Government Hospitals and various positions in Municipal Corporations and municipalities. In addition to this, there are various career opportunities available in various Non-Governmental Organisations at various positions in management, administration and program implementation. Various large-scale companies too have vacancies for candidates with MSW degree to discharge their duty and obligation of social services or to render social services in a particular area.
