Rural Studies (BRS) (3 years)

Keeping in view the new training pattern, a 3-year Bachelor of Rural Studies degree program is being conducted at various places.

This course is devised to prepare graduates for working in the field of Rural Development. It is need of the hour to train the youth in the direction towards developing approach for development of villages of the country, attend and resolve their issues, problems and difficulties. The course designed for this discipline covers all the subjects like Gujarati, Hindi, English, Accountancy, Gandhian Ideology, Gandhi Jivan Darshan, Chemistry, History of Indian Philosophy, Psychology, Medical science, Rural Economy, Statistics, Cooperation and Panchayat, Animal Husbandry, Agriculture, Horticulture, Extension, Research work, Political Science, Religions of world etc. and knowledge on these subjects is being imparted theoretically and practically. In most of the colleges, hostel accommodation is compulsory.


Priority in admission is normally accorded to the students of Higher Basic Training Course stream students. At some colleges, admission is through entrance test and other colleges admit with 50% marks. This course is designed keeping in view requirements of areas of agriculture, forest and rural. Advertisements for admission to the colleges conducting this course are published in the months of June-July.


Employment avenues for such candidates are limited. After pursuing studies in this discipline, one can create his own source of income by self-employment in the field of agriculture, animal husbandry or dairy or nursery farm or horticulture activities. For prosecuting further studies, admissions are available in courses of B.Ed., D.B.Ed., D.P.Ed.,M.A.,M.S.W. or M.R.D. or M.R.S.

After higher studies, employment opportunities are available to the posts of Higher Basic Training Course schools as Assistant Teacher, Teacher in Gram Vidhyapeeth, Coordinator, Research Assistant, Gaushala Assistant, Education Extension, Stockman, Hostel Rector etc. Opportunities are also available in companies engaged in agro-products and pharmaceutical manufacturing. There are opportunities also in District Rural Development Agency, various government programs and cooperative banks-societies.
